Malham Day Walk - Saturday 28th April 2007
We all met up at Becketts Park to leave in cars for the beautiful village of Malham. Departure was, as expected, a little later than planned, but eventually we were all sorted into cars and heading through traffic-ridden Ilkley toward the Dales.
It was virtually lunch time by the time we had all arrived, so just about time for a stop in the tea shop...Eventually everyone was rounded up and we headed off towards Janet's Foss. Once there it was time for a break, as some climbed up and round the top of the waterfall. A few metres on we reached the burger van - ice-creams and sandwiches all round - was it lunch time already? (YES!!!)
Following the path through the valley to Gordale Scar, there were many climbers attempting the scale the tricky rock faces. We approached the waterfall, where Dan, Vickie and Finley decided to take the 'scenic' route around the outside. The rest of us scambled up the scar and up to the tops. From there it was a short walk to the tarn where we were to meet up with the others. We made camp on the grass under the sunshine for lunch stop number 3 and a bit of a snooze...
After a good half hour, we heard from Dan and headed towards the cove. The cove was as breathtaking as ever, and it was time for another pause, before heading down into the valley to view from below. After a brief stop at the falcon viewing point, it was back to the village for a couple of pints on the village green, before heading back to Leeds.
It was one of the best day walks for some time, amazing weather (for April), good company and great beer! When's the next trip...??!! |
