The Walking Club Committee 2005/06

Martin Karl
President
Paul Middleton
Secretary
Jenia Bobrik
Membership
Lynne Willimott
Treasurer

With Martin as president the club took on a continental feel, although the presence of Driving Paul as secretary brought it back home to Yorkshire. Lynne took charge of the cash (what cash there was!) and revamped the website and Jenia managed the membership.

Martin Karl: Bavarian and proud. Martin is remembered for his love of snow, memorable pre-walk speeches, his 5am e-mails and obsession with chocolate cake (especially from the Hill Inn!). He put great effort in engaging all members of the club, British and International, which was reflected by the soaring membership numbers and retention throughout the year. Despite not being able to read a map, Martin went out of his way to ensure the success of the club, even driving through the night from Stansted to join the final day of the Scotland trip. Some say it was his hardworking, friendly and selfless personality that made him a successful president, however we all know that it was really his frequent taxi-service to the pub on weekend trips that made him so popular!
'Driving' Paul Middleton: Christened 'Driving' in 2004, curiously Paul never drove at all during his year on the committee - something to do with too many points on his licence...Paul was always the life of the party, organising social events and staying up long into the night. Paul is remembered for his hatred of cheese, love of lager & haribo, and technical support during the year. Rumour has it that despite a lack of map-reading skills and no sense of direction, he may have led the odd walk or two...heaven help those who followed him!
Jenia Bobrik: brought a bit of Russian spirit to the club. Her organisational skills were second to none, keeping track of membership and helping arrange the weekends. Jenia was quiet, but brought style to the club and worked hard to ensure weekend trips were a complete success.
Lynne Willimott: was roped into the committee over the summer, and was soon tasked with building a new website for the club. She is remembered for maintaining the website, covering the uni with posters and keeping a strict track of the cash to ensure the club stayed in the black. Lynne spent many a Tuesday night giving linguisitic advice to the international members, and many weekend trips leading the easy walks due to a damaged knee.
The 2005/06 committee was a great success, so here are a few final snaps of them enjoying the year together...
